The Penrith Museum and Tourist Information Centre are housed in the former Robinson's School, an Elizabethan building which was altered in 1670 and used as a school until the early 1970's. The building is an ideal starting point for those wishing to explore Penrith.

The museum covers the history, geology and archaeology of the Penrith area. Exhibits include some Roman pottery from the Roman Fort near Plumpton, and 'cup and ring' stones from Maughanby.

There are displays and information relating to Lady Anne Clifford.

A temporary exhibition gallery features changing exhibitions of local interest.

The TIC provides information on what to see and do, entertainments and events, places of interest, travel and transport, and where to stay. It has information on local accommodation, and provides a free local booking service for personal callers.
